CD interest rates were little changed for the week ending May 20, 2011. While Treasury rates dipped lower and mortgage rates moved higher, bank CD rates yawned. The highest CD rates available for all five categories of bank CDs (3 month CDs rates, 6 month CD rates, 1 year CD rates, 2 year CD rate and 5 year CD rates) measured by Selectcdrates.com ended the week with an average yield of 1.384 percent which is an increase of just .001 percent from the previous week.

There was very little change among the top CD rates across all terms. Nexity Bank continues to lead the highest CD rates for three month term CDs as well as six month term CDs. The Nexity Bank CD rates not only held the top spot for these terms but the rates offered were unchanged from the prior week. The top three month CD rate from Nexity is at 0.81 percent while the top six month CD rate from the bank is available at 1.12 percent.

The highest CD rate for a one year term is also unchanged at 1.40 percent. This rate is offered by Doral Bank Direct. Nexity Bank has stepped into second place with a one year CD rate at 1.31 percent. The previous second place bank, MetLife Bank, follows immediately behind with a one year CD rate at 1.30 percent.

MetLife Bank has retained the lead position in the two year CD rate category. The bank offers a two year CD rate at 1.55 percent that just edges out Ascencia Bank with their two year CD yielding 1.52 percent.

The top five year CD rates were also little changed on the week. The best five year CD rate is held by Tennessee Commerce Bank with a rate of 2.65 percent. EverBank continues to have the second highest five year CD rate but has reduced the rate offered by one basis point or 1/100th of a percent from the previous week. EverBank’s five year CD now has an interest rates of 2.58 percent.
