Clearing checks has become much faster process as technology has improved.  Many banks now use digital images of checks instead of the actual checks in order to transfer money more quickly.  Many banks now use digital images of checks instead of the actual checks in order to transfer money more quickly.  Since checks clear faster, the process of playing the float or the amount time between writing a check from a checking account to the amount of time the funds are drawn out of the account, is a much more dangerous process to exploit.  Don’t assume that you have plenty of time to cover a check that you’ve written with inadequate or insufficient funds in the account.  The results of trying to use the float time will most likely end with an overdrawn checking account and significant bank fees.
