The highest CD rates available to consumers in Florida are holding their own through mid June and remain well above the average national rate on similar term accounts.  The current best CD rates on six month, one year, two year, and five year certificates of deposit rate in Florida are almost four times higher than the national average rate.

The national average rate for six month term CDs reported by the FDIC for the week of June 16, 2014 was 0.12%.  Based on the most recent survey of Florida CD rates conducted by on June 19, 2014 the best six month CD rates in Florida have an average interest rate of 0.675% or more than five times the national average.

For one year CD rates, the national average rate is 0.20% while the highest one year CD rates promoted by Florida banks are more than five time higher at 1.038%. 

Two year CD rates available nationally have an average yield of 0.33%, the highest two year CDs in Florida have an average rate of 1.308%. 

Based on the FDIC report, the national average rate for five year CDs is 0.76%, the top bank CDs in Florida in the survey have an average rate of 2.037%.

The highest six month certificate rate coming from a Florida bank is at 0.95%.  Doral Bank is offering the top rate for this term.  Doral Bank’s online division, Doral Direct, also offers the highest six month CD rate available nationally.  Floridians get a special break with Doral, while the online division leads the nation at 0.87%, the rate offered in Florida is higher than the rate offered nationally.  Note – data compiled to evaluate the best CD rate offered nationally is based on bank CD rates that offered in all 50 states.

Doral Bank CDs are also on top for the highest one year CD rates.  Doral offers a one year CD in Florida that has an interest rate of 1.10%.  Doral operates five branches in Florida, four in Bay County and one in Pensacola.  Bank customers must deposit $500.00 to open this account and obtain the advertised yield.

Third Federal Savings and Loan is currently promoting the best rate in the two year term category in the Sunshine State.  The Third Fed CD is a special promotion CD that has an odd term of 29 months.  The rate on the Third Federal CD promotion is 1.50% and requires a minimum $500.00 deposit.  The bank operates 17 full service branches throughout Florida.

The highest five year CD rate in Florida is available at EverBank which also the best five year CD rate currently available across the nation.  The EverBank CD rate for a five year term is at 2.30%.  The bank requires a minimum opening deposit of $1,500.00 to open the CD account.  EverBank provides services to clients through the internet, over the phone, through the mail, at its Florida-based financial centers.
