Wisconsin CD Rates for June 5, 2009

Wisconsin CD rates were little changed for the week ending June 5, 2009.  The short term, six month CD rates dropped while the remaining terms were unchanged.  Often week over week changes in state CD rates can be rather sluggish, reacting to interest movements in incremental steps as opposed to more dramatic drops and pops.  However, this week the national rates were extremely volatile as were other segments of the credit markets including mortgage rates and Treasury rates.  In light of the significant rate movement in other bank rates the inactivity in Wisconsin CD rates is rather conspicuous.  Fortunately, lack of interest rate movements for bank CDs worked in the favor of Wisconsin CD rate investors since the best CD rates available in Wisconsin easily surpass the best national rates.

The best six month CD rates in Wisconsin averaged 2.33%, down measurably from last week’s average of 2.38%.  Even with the rate reduction, the highest six month CD rate is above the best national six month CD rate.  The highest six month rate in Wisconsin is at 2.62% from First National Bank of Park Falls.  The next best rate drops measurably to 2.30% and is available at a few Wisconsin banks including Washington First Bank, Citizens Bank of Mukwonago and American Bank & Trust.

The best one year CD rates in Wisconsin are also easily topping the best one year CD rates available nationally.  The highest one year CD rate sits at 2.85% on a 15 month CD from Bank of Deerfield.  First National Bank of Park Falls follows with a one year CD rate of 2.73%.  Bank of Lake Mills has a ten month CD at 2.70% that is seven basis points or 7/100 of a percent above the best national rate.

The best two year CD rates in Wisconsin remained unchanged for the week with top four banks offering CD yields ahead of the best national rates.  The highest two year CD rates goes to Laona State Bank with an interest rate of 3.02%.  Settlers Bank and Investors Community Bank have the second best two year CD rates at 3.00%.  With an interest rate of 2.90%, Bank of Lake Mills rounds out the top four bank rates.

In the five year CD rate category, the highest rate leads the national rates with two more banks matching that rate.  The average of the best five year CD rates in Wisconsin closed the week at 3.61%.  Foundations Bank leads this group with a five year CD rate of 3.75%.  Ten basis points lower is the offer of both American National Bank Fox Cities and Bank of Oakfield with five year CD that earns a rate of 3.65%.
