WaMu is running an advertising campaign with the focus on the size of their ATM network.  An ad for WaMu in the December 3rd, 2008 Orange County Register reads, “14,000 more reasons why we’ve got the best checking”.  Now that WaMu is part of Chase, the combined ATM network is in excess of 14,000 machines.  WaMu checking accounts have access to free withdrawal form all Chase and WaMu branded ATMs and the bank is aggressively marketing this feature.  The ad promotes the free checking account of WaMu but WaMu offers both a free checking account and an interest bearing checking account.

The WaMu free checking account offers account holders free services with no monthly fee.  The checking account allows free ATM cash withdrawals, free checks for life and a free Gold Debit MasterCard®.

For those bank customers who maintain higher checking balances and want to earn interest on their funds, WaMu offers a interest checking account.  The WaMu interest checking account affords the account holders the ability to earn interest on their checking account balance and still benefit from some of the same features found in the free checking account.  The interest checking account allows for balance based transfers to an eligible WaMu savings account as well.

Both types of checking accounts offer:
Free ATM cash withdrawals.
Free checks, provided the bank customer chooses the WaMu design single-style checks, one box per order and free checks must be ordered through WaMu.
Debit MasterCard®.
Free Identity Theft Services
Minimum to open either checking is $1.00.

There is no monthly service charge on the free checking account, the interest bearing checking account has a $10.00 monthly fee that is waived when the balance on the interest bearing checking account is $5,000.00.

Additional conditions and services may exist.  Contact a bank representative for details.  More information from the bank can be obtained by calling 866-700-0054 or visiting the bank website at www.wamu.com.
