The average for the top ten best two year certificate of deposit rates was unchanged for the week ending December 11, 2009.  The average yield for two consecutive weeks has held at 2.26%.

The highest two year CD rate available nationally was also unchanged at 2.40%.  The best two year CD rate continues to come from Atlantic Coast Bank.  Following the term leader is American Express Bank which promotes a two year CD that has an interest rate of 2.35%.  La Jolla Bank of California follows with a two year CD interest rate that is five basis points lower at 2.25%.

The third highest two year CD rate available nationally is a product of two banks, Discover Bank and Colorado Federal Savings Bank.  Both of these banks market two year CD rates at 2.25%.  With yields that are three basis points lower, two more banks follow with two year CDs at 2.22%.  State Bank of India and Centennial Bank offer two year CDs that have yields at 2.22% and share the fifth position on the list.

One basis point lower yet is the two year CD of New Dominion Bank that has an interest rate of 2.21% and holds the position of sixth highest rate.  One more basis point behind this rate are the two year term bank CDs of Nexity Bank and AIG Bank that yield 2.20%.

Summarizing the results for the week over week changes on the list for the top ten best two year bank CD rates, there is little to report.  The arrangement of the list is entirely unaltered from the prior week.  All banks listed continued to offer the same rates and terms with no new entries or departures from the list.
