The best six month CD rates available nationally saw the average rate unchanged for the week ending November 6, 2009.  The average of the top ten best six month CD rates sustained a yield of 1.57%.  The best six month CD rate available did however, fall rather substantially for the week.

The highest six month CD rate dropped down from 1.76% in the previous week to a yield of 1.63% this week.  The highest CD rate with a six month term continues to be promoted by Ascencia Bank, the bank has simply narrowed the spread between its high rate CD and the next best six month term CD rate presented.  NewDominion Bank offers that next best six month CD rate that is just one basis point or 1/100 of a percent lower with an interest rate of 1.62%.  NewDominion’s six month CD rate was untouched from the earlier week.

The third highest six month CD rate comes from three different banks, all offering the same annual percentage yield of 1.60% on their six month term bank CDs.  Two of the banks, FirstFed Direct and The Palladian Private, held their rates from the previous while one new bank joined to make a trio.  UFB Direct raised their six month CD rate to 1.60% to hold this position.

Five basis points behind these two banks are the CD rates of MetLife Bank and La Jolla Bank, both banks offering six month CD rates at 1.55%.  Rounding out the top ten best six month CD rates are the rates from Pacific Mercantile Bank, Nexity Bank and Giant Bank.  Pacific Mercantile markets a six month CD rate at 1.52% while; both Nexity and Giant promote their six month bank CDs with interest rates at 1.51%.  All five of these banks left their rates intact from the prior week.

Of the ten banks listed in the previous week, only one bank reduced the interest rate on a six month CD, one bank increased their six month CD interest rate and one bank fell off the list due to the previously mentioned bank rate increase.
