Yields on one year certificates of deposit declined for the week ending June 26, 2009.  After declining by three basis points from the start of the week, the average of the top one year CD rates rested at 2.27% at the end of the week.  Of the top ten bank rates posted last week in this category, five banks trimmed their rates, four were unchanged and one fell off the top ten all together.

The best one year CD rate available nationally is now at 2.35% and can be found at AmboyBank.  The highest bank rate is down the same amount as the average or three basis points.  Three banks are offering the same one year CD rate that follows the lead of Amboy.  Ally Bank, Discover Bank and FirsFedDirect all offer one year CD rates at 2.30%.  NewDominion Bank has the next best rate at 2.26%.  Four banks, UmbrellaBank.com, One West Bank, Excel National Bank and The PalladianPrivate Bank all share the next spot with one year CDs that yield 2.25%.  The tenth bank rate on the list is AIG Banks one year CD with an interest rate of 2.21%.

The best one year CD rates available nationally have been hammered in the past three months.  These bank rates are once again becoming useful mostly as a barometer on the direction and position of one year rates.  Most all top state rates are not only beating the national averages but are above the highest national CD rate with a one year term.
