The averages for the best CD rates in Georgia were marginally lower however; the highest CD rates in each term category were unchanged from the previous week.  The six month CD rate tables are dominated by extended nine month term CDs.  Though this would seem counter intuitive, the nine month rates are added only when the yields are so much higher relative to the added 3 months to the maturity that they warrant comparison and consideration.

The highest bank rate in the six month term is a nine month CD from Bartow County Bank with an interest rate of 2.80% which is 60 basis points or 60/100 of a percent higher than the best national six month rate.  The next best bank rate is not far behind with the nine month CD from Metro City Bank that has an interest rate of 2.78%.  The average interest rate for this term 2.66%.

The best one year CD rates in Georgia continue to soar above the best national rates.  The highest one year CD rate comes from The Buckhead Community Bank with an interest rate of 3.25%.  High Trust Bank follows with a one year CD that yields 3.00%.  Two banks, Atlantic Southern Bank and Georgia Trust Bank, have CDs with 2.90% rates.  The average for the best one year CD rates stood at 2.95% which is above the best national rate of 2.80%.

All of the best two year CD rates on the accompanying table surpasses the best national rates.  The highest two year CD rate is with Northside Bank at a rate of 3.30%.  The Buckhead Community Bank and Rockbridge Commercial Bank share second position with two year CD rates of 3.05%.  The next best CD rate is at Oglethorpe Bank with their two year CD that yields 3.03%.

The best five year CD rates dropped on average from 3.56% to 3.51% for the week ending May 29.  In spite of this reduction, the highest CD rate remains in tact at 3.75%.  The 3.75% five year CDs can be found at KeyWorth Bank and One Georgia Bank.  The top rates drop from here with the next best CD rate coming from Citizens Bank of Effingham at 3.50%.
