Bank CD rates in Pennsylvania were a mixed bag for the week ending September 18, 2009.  The six month rates dropped measurably, the one year CD rates were unchanged while the two and five year CD rates saw an increase in average interest rates earned.

The average of the best six month CD rates in Pennsylvania was down by seven basis pints or 7/100 of a percent for the week.  The average rate stood at 1.69% compared to 1.76% in the prior week.  The highest CD rate with a six month term is a promotional odd term, seven month bank CD from The Dime Bank with an interest rate of 2.02%.  There is more than one Pennsylvania bank offering a six month CD that falls behind Dime with an interest rate of 1.75% including East Penn Bank and Valley Green Bank. 

The best one year CD rates in PA remained constant week over week with an average rate of 2.09%.  The bank rate leader in the one year term category is First national Community Bank which offers a promotional 15 month CD with an interest rate of 2.25%.  Stonebridge Bank follows with another promotional bank CD, this one for a 14 month term that has a yield of 2.14%.

The average of the best two year CD rates in the Keystone State gained three basis points to close the week.  Two year CD rates moved from 2.40% to 2.43% from the previous week.  Two banks share the highest CD rate position.  Both, KNBT and National Penn offer 22 month CDs that have interest rates set at 2.50%.  KNBT and National Penn are part of a network of banks under the same umbrella of National Penn Bancshares.

Five year CD rates in Pennsylvania also gained on yield for the week.  The average of the best five year CD rates in Pennsylvania was up by three basis points to 3.43%.  The best five year CD rates in PA can be found at several banks including Abington Bank, Indiana First Savings Bank, Brentwood Bank and First National Community Bank.
