The Best CD Rates in New York for the Week Ending September 18, 2009

CD rates in New York moved higher on the short term CDs while moving lower for the longer term CDs.  On average, the rate changes were relatively mild with the exception of the five year CD rates which fell measurably.

The best six month CD rates in New York were up two basis points or 2/100 of a percent for the week.  The average for the best six month CD rates averaged 1.83%, up from 1.81% in the prior week.  The best bank rate with this maturity comes from Massena Savings and Loan which has been dominating the leader board for several weeks.  Granted, Massena New York is not exactly adjacent to Manhattan but they do offer online banking and the bank is well capitalized with low levels of loan delinquencies on the books.

The best one year CD rates in New York were higher by one basis point.  The average one year rate closed the week at 2.20%.  The best one year CD rate is also a product of Massena S & L with a one year CD rate at 2.56%. 

New York two year CD rates moved in the opposite direction of the short term CD rates and lost two basis points for the week.  The average of the best two year CD rates ended the week at 2.61%, down from the prior’s week average of 2.63%.  Massena leads this term category as well followed by Hamptons State Bank which offers a two year CD rate at 2.75%. 

The average of the best five year CD rates joined the two years in moving lower for the week.  The best five year CD rates in New York average d 3.40% for the week, down from 3.46% in the previous week.  City National Bank continues to offer a five year CD rate at 3.50% that leads the list along with Hamptons State Bank which also offers a five year CD at 3.50%.

The Best New York CD Rates for June 12, 2009

New York CD rates were a mixed bag for the week ending June 12, 2009.  Short term CD rates fell while the longer term rates rose.  The best six month CD rates dropped measurably from an average of 2.32% at the start the week to 2.18% at the close of the week.  One year CD rate were down as well but not by nearly the scale of the six month rates.  One year CD rates dropped by two basis points or 2/100 of a percent to end the week at 2.51%.  The two year CD reversed the slide and improved by 12 basis points to 2.78%.  The average of the best five year CD rates in New York fell by less than .01% ending at 3.64%.

The top two bank rates with a six month term in New York remain unchanged for the week.  Massena Savings and Loan offers the best six month CD rate at 2.56%.  Closely following this rate is the six month CD from Wilshire State Bank that has an interest rate of 2.52%.  Bank CD rates drop off measurably from this point with the next best rate ½% lower.

The highest one year CD rates in New York are remained mostly intact for the week as well.  The best one year CD rate is also a product of Massena Savings and Loan with a rate of 2.87%.  Mutual Bank continues to promote a 16 month CD special with an interest rate of 2.56%.  Three basis points behind that rate is Atlas Savings and Loan’s 15 month CD that earns a rate of 2.53%.

The highest two year CD rates seem to be fixed too with the best rate at Massena Savings and Loan at 3.08%.  Atlas Savings and Loan has second position with a two year CD rate of 2.89%.  Both of these CD rates surpass the best national rates.  First Republic Bank falls seven basis points under the best national rate to hold the third best rate with a two year CD that yields 2.80%. 

The best five year CD rates were almost completely static for the week.  Of the highest five year CDs from last week only Intervest National Bank showed signs of life, disappointingly by reducing their five year CD from 3.66% to 3.62%.  All other CD rates remained intact.  The top spot is held by Atlas Savings and Loan at 3.82%.  First Republic follows with a five year CD rate of 3.75%.  State Bank of India rounds out the top three banks with five year CD rate of 3.65%.

New York CD Rates for the week ending June 5, 2009

CD rates in New York dropped measurably for the short term, six month CDs, but were little changed for the longer term CDs.  The best New York CD rates with a term of six months fell by ten basis points from 2.28% last week to 2.18% for the week ending June 5, 2009.  The average of the best one year CD rates in New York rose by two basis points to 2.53%.  The average of the two year CD rates dropped by one basis point to end the week at 2.78%.  The average of the best five year CD rates were unchanged for the week at 3.64%.

The best six month CD rate in New York remains a product of Massena Savings & Loan with an interest rate of 2.56%.  The runner up for this term is also unchanged with Wilshire State Bank’s six month CD that yields 2.52%.

The highest one year CD rate is also a product of Massena Savings & Loan and stands at 2.87%.  This rate is now well above the best national rate which has now fallen to 2.63%.  The second best one year CD rate comes from Mutual Bank which has a 16 month promotional CD that earns a rate of 2.56%.  The 15 month term CD of Atlas Savings and Loan is only three basis points lower with an interest rate of 2.53%.

Massena Savings & Loan wins the trifecta by having the best two year CD rate along with the six month and one year.  The best two year CD rate in New York coming from Massena is at 3.08% which is appreciably above the best national rate.  Atlas Savings and Loan falls behind this offer with a two year CD rate at 2.89%, which is also above the best national rates.  First Republic Bank rounds out the top three with a two year CD rate of 2.80%.

The best five year CD rates in New York have were unaltered for the week.  The top four bank rates for this term in New York are at or exceed the best national rate.  The highest CD rate remains with Atlas Savings and Loan with an interest rate of 3.82%.  Following this rate is the five year CD of First Republic Bank that yields 3.75%.  Rounding out the top four is Intervest National Bank at 3.66% and State Bank of India with a five year CD rate of 3.65%.

Certificate of Deposit Rates in New York May 29, 2009

New York certificate of deposit rates went against the tide this week and ended with mostly higher interest rates.  The best six month CD rate was unchanged at 2.56% from Massena Savings and Loan but the average of the best six month CD rates was up measurably to 2.28% from 2.14% the prior week.  The addition of Wilshire State Bank’s six month CD with an interest rate of 2.52% pushed the average higher as did the addition of LibertyPointe Bank’s six month CD that yields 2.33%.  These bank rates are significantly above the best national rate that lingers at 2.20%.

One year CD rates in New York also managed to increase for the week.  The best one year CD rate is once again being promoted by Massena Savings and Loan at 2.87% which surpasses the best national rate by seven basis points or 7/100 of a percent.  Following this rate is last week’s leader, Mutual Bank, which squeaks in with a 16 month CD that yields 2.56%.  The average of the top one year CD rates increased to 2.51% from the 2.37% the previous week.

The best New York two year CD rates continue to beat the best national rates.  Massena Savings and Loan holds the top spot at 3.08% followed by Atlas Savings and Loan with a two year CD rate of 2.89%, both bank rates are above the national rates.  Depth in this term category remains strong with a 2.80% two year CD rate from First Republic Bank and a two year CD at 2.78% from State Bank of India.

Making a clean sweep of beating the national rates, the best five year CD rate is unchanged at 3.82% from Atlas Savings and Loan and is above the best national rate by seven basis points.  First Republic falls into second position with a five year CD rate of 3.75%.  The average for the five year bank CDs in New York rose to 3.64% from 3.62% for the week of May 22.

The best CD rates in New York lost ground for the week ending May 22, 2009 with the exception of the six month CD rates.  The best six month CD rate remained unchanged with Massena Savings and Loan’s six month CD that has an interest rate of 2.56%, well above the best national bank CD rates.  United Commercial Bank jumped in with the next best six month CD rate of 2.18%.  The average of the highest six month CD rates rose to 2.14% from 2.08% in the previous week.

The one year CD rates saw a dramatic reduction in the highest rate driving the average for the best one year CD rates from 2.47% to 2.37%.  The highest CD rate comes from Mutual Bank on their 16 month term CD that has an interest rate of 2.56%.  Atlas Savings and Loan is right behind with a 15 month CD that yields 2.53%.  These rates are well behind the best national rate offered by Ally Bank at 2.80%.

The average for the best two year CD rates in New York fell from 2.85% to 2.79%, however the highest two year CD rate remained unaltered.  The highest two year CD rate comes from Massena Savings and Loan with an interest rate of 3.08%.  The next best rate drops 15 basis points from the prior week to 2.89% and is a product of Atlas Savings and Loan.  Each of the next top rates dropped as well with the lowest rate in this category coming from Intervest National Bank at 2.60%.

The best five year CD rate in New York dropped as did the average of the best rates.  The average fell modestly from 3.67% to 3.62% while the top rate dropped to 3.82%.  The highest CD rate belongs to Atlas Savings and Loan.  First Republic Bank follows with a five year CD rate of 3.75% that matches the best national rate available.

New York CD Rates Update May 8, 2009

Certificate of deposit rates in New York continue to outpace the best national rates but the depth in the number of banks offering top CD rates is starting to wane.  Within the six month CD rates, Massena Savings & Loan maintains the highest rate with an interest rate of 2.56%.  The next best CD rate drops off dramatically with the six month CD rate of Trustco Bank that earns a rate of 2.15%.  Mutual Bank’s six month CD falls nine basis points back with a rate of 2.09%.  Hudson City Savings Bank and EastBank follow with six month CDs that have yields of 2.00%.

The best one year CD rate in New York is also a product of Massena Savings & Loan.  Massena’s one year CD rate of 2.87% continues to beat the highest CD rate in New York as well as those offered nationally.  Again, the next best CD rate drops down in rate rather considerably.  Mutual Bank holds the next best CD rate at 2.62%.  Atlas Savings and Loan has a 15 month promotional CD with an interest rate of 2.53% that trails Atlas.  Another large step down in rate is the next best one year CD at 2.30% which is marketed by Intervest National Bank.

In order to make the two year CD rates easy to follow, Massena Savings & Loan continues to offer their two year CD with a rate of 3.08% to lead the group.  Atlas Savings and Loan remains in the number two positions with a two year CD rate of 3.04%.  Both of these banks exceed the highest national two year CD rate set by GMAC Bank at 2.90%.  State Bank of India is close behind with a two year CD that offers a rate of 2.78%.  Mutual Bank has a two year at 2.76% and City National Bank wraps up the list with a two year CDs yielding 2.75%.

The best five year CD rate in New York is modestly lower this week but remains one of the top five year CD rates available in any state.  First Republic Bank offers a five year CD with an interest rate set at 3.85%.  Atlas Savings and Loan’s five year CD is nipping at Republic’s heals with a five year CD rate of 3.82%.  Intervest National Bank is the second best national rate and third best for the state of New York bank rates.  Dime Savings Bank and City National Bank remain in the clean up position with five year CDs that stand at 3.50%.

The Highest New York CD Rates Update May 1, 2009

The best CD rates in New York have some of the best rates available nationwide and beat the national best CD rates in all categories.  The best six month CD rate in New York is offered by Massena Savings & Loan with an interest rate of 2.56%.  EastBank continues to the lead the category with an extended term CD that matures in nine months but also has a measurably higher rate at 2.60%.  The highest CD rates make a somewhat precipitous drop from here, the next best CD rate is now at 2.15% on a six month CD promoted by Trustco Bank.  Mutual Bank falls in line next with a six month CD that has a rate of 2.09%.  Intervest National Bank and Hudson City Savings Bank end the list with six month CD rates at 2.00%.

Massena Savings & Loan continues to dominate the one year CD rate list.  The bank has actually increased the yield they offer on this CD to 2.87%.  A full1/4 percent behind this rate is the 16 month term CD of Mutual Bank that has an interest rate of 2.62%.  Atlas Savings and Loan follows with a 15 month CD that earns a rate of 2.53%.  Only three basis points lower is the longer, 18 month CD of First Republic Bank with a rate of 2.50%.  Intervest National Bank slips back with a one year CD rate of 2.40% and Citibank ends the list with a one year CD that now yields 2.25%.

Surprisingly or perhaps not, Massena Savings & Loan leads the best two year CD rates in New York.  Massena Savings has a two year CD with an interest rate of 3.08%.  Four basis points back is Atlas Savings with their two year CD at 3.04%.  Four more basis points lower and we find the two year CD of First Republic Bank at 3.00%.  Almost ¼ percent behind this rate is State Bank of India which offers a two year CD rate of 2.78%.  Mutual Bank and City National Bank round out the list with two year CD rates of 2.76% and 2.75%, respectively.

Two banks in New York offer five year CD rates that handily beat the best national rates.  First Republic Bank continues their offer of a five year CD that has a rate of 4.00% while Atlas Savings and Loan has a five year CD at 3.82%.  Intervest National Bank leads the best national rates but falls into third position in New York with an interest rate of 3.66%.  With a five year CD rate of 3.55%, State Bank of India has the next best certificate of deposit.  Dime Savings Bank and City National Bank conclude this list with five year CDs that both offer rates at 3.50%.

The Highest New York CD Rates Update April 24, 2009

New York state CD rates continue to offer more opportunities than can be found from the national bank rates.  The list of banks moved around the various term lists, however most of the highest CD rates remained stable and continue to outpace the national averages.  Massena Savings & Loan offers the best six month CD rate at 2.56, well above the best national rate.  The top CD ranked in the category of six month CD rates in New York is being promoted by EastBank which has an extended nine month term CD with an interest rate of 2.60%.  Amalgamated Bank and Trustco Bank run in the next position with six month CD rates of 2.25%.

The best one year CD rate in New York is presented by Massena Savings & Loan and has a rate of 2.82%.  State Bank of India which is third on the list of top one year CD rates for the national list falls in second spot for the state of New York with an interest rate of 2.63%.  One basis point behind this rate is the certificate of deposit of Mutual Bank that has an interest rate of 2.62% on a 16 month term.  Playing clean up for this list is the one year CD of First Republic Bank at 2.50%.

Three banks in the two year CD rate category for New York surpass the best national rates.  Massena Savings & Loan leads the pack again with a two year CD that has an interest rate of 3.08%.  First Republic Bank drops back a bit with a two year CD rate of 3.05%.  Atlas Savings and Loan of Brooklyn continue the trend of beating the national rates with a two year CD rate at 3.04%.  Intervest National Bank, a usual member of the national list, sports a 30 month CD with an interest rate of 2.90%.  State Bank of India and Mutual Bank round out the list with CD rates of 2.78% and 2.76% respectively.

The best New York CD rates are once again above the best national CD rates.  Massena Savings & Loan with offices in Massena  and Waddington has the best six month CD rate at 2.56%.  Trustco Bank is in second position, but a full 26 basis points back, has a six month CD rate of 2.30%.  First Republic Bank and Amalgamated Bank match the best national averages each promoting six month CDs that yield 2.25%%.  Both banks are offering odd month promotional CDs that are for seven month terms.  The top six best six month CD rates end with Intervest National Bank that has posted a six month CD at 2.05%.

The best one year CD rates in New York are also led by Massena Savings & Loan.  The bank has a one year CD with an interest rate of 2.82%.  Mutual Bank falls into second position with a 16 month CD that earns a rate of 2.62%.  Intervest National Bank is 2 basis points lower on their 18 month CD with a rate of 2.60%.  Hanover Community Bank and First Republic Bank finish the one year CD rate category with rates of 2.50% on their 18 month term CDs.
