The best five year CD rates for the week ending May 1, 2009 declined by one basis point or 1/100 of a percent to 3.50%.  This rate represents the average of the top ten best five year CD rates offered nationally by banks.  The highest five year CD rate is being offered by Intervest National Bank with an interest rate of 3.66%.  UFB Direct comes in second position with a five year CD that has an interest rate of 3.65%.  Four basis points back is the five year CD offered by iGOBanking, a division of Flushing Savings Bank.  Discover Bank holds it spot next with a five year CD rate of 3.60%, unchanged from the previous week.  State Bank of India, GMAC Bank and Goldwater Bank all offer five year CDs that have rates ranging from 3.50% to 3.55%.  Nationwide Bank and Advanta Bank round out the top ten best five year CD rates with certificates of deposit that have interest rates of 3.30%.  Nationwide Bank requires a $500.00 minimum deposit while Advanta Bank requires a $10,000.00 minimum deposit to obtain the CD yield.
