CD rates were little changed going into the Memorial Day weekend.  However, not all news for savers was ho hum with some CD maturities displaying a mild uptick.  In the latest survey of bank CD rates conducted by SelectCDrates.com, the average yield on the top bank CDs available nationwide dipped by a very small fraction, .001%.  The results for the week were mixed with rates bouncing on short, mid, and long term maturities.  The average CD rate in the SelectCDrates.com CD rate index came in at 1.102% from 1.103% in the previous week.

The ultra short, three month term CDs, lost yield on the week.  The average rate on the top ten best three month CD rates available nationally dipped to 0.392% from 0.396%.  The UmbrellaBank.com CDs with a three month term remain the highest short term rates on the market with a current interest rate of 0.51%.  UmbrellaBank.com is the online banking division of Beal Bank.

The six month CD rates were unchanged in the current survey.  The rate on the highest six month CD rates available in all 50 states held at 0.732%.  Doral Direct CDs are out on top in this term.  The Doral Direct six month CD rate is now at 0.87%. Doral Direct is the online branch of Doral Bank.

One year CD rates pushed higher this past week.  The top one year CD rates were lifted by .008% which brought the average yield up to 1.041% from 1.033% in the week earlier.  EverBank offers the highest one year CD rate at 1.10%.

The two year term certificates shrugged off the up and down action and stayed put with an average yield of 1.187%.  The Virtual Bank CDs with a term of two years are leading this category with an interest rate of 1.26%.  Virtual Bank is division of Sabadell United Bank based in Florida,

The best five year CD rates, which have been slowly moving higher throughout most of the year, took a breather this week.  The average interest rate on the top ten highest five year certificates was cut by almost one basis point or 1/00th of a percentage point.  The average rate on the top five year CDs slid to 2.156% from 2.165% in the prior week.  GE Capital Bank has the leading five year CD with an interest rate of 2.30% for deposit amounts of $25,000.00 and greater.
